Georges Mathieu  (1921-2012)

Georges Mathieu was a French painter and one of the pioneers of Lyrical Abstraction in Europe. Renowned for his spontaneous and expressive style, he created dynamic compositions characterized by rapid, gestural brushstrokes and remarkable energy. Believing that the act of painting was an essential part of the artwork itself, Mathieu often painted live before audiences.

Throughout his career, he exhibited extensively in leading museums and galleries worldwide and became one of the most influential figures in post-war abstract art. Today, his works are held in major public and private collections and continue to be celebrated for their innovation, vitality, and artistic impact.
