Nouna b.1958
Nouna, Sculptor and Plastic Artist A graduate of the École Supérieure des Arts Modernes in Paris, Denise Benarroch, known as Nouna, was initially involved in design and decoration within industrial and commercial settings. In the 1990s, however, she was drawn into the world of sculpture. She joined several workshops where she explored a variety of styles, and later pursued studies at the École Boulle—an experience that fed her insatiable desire for artistic growth.
Nouna then collaborated with an agency specializing in the creation of artistic trophies while continuing to develop her own work. She created several pieces inspired by artistic and advertising photography: La Femme Coquillage (The Shell Woman, 2000), La Femme Parfum (The Perfume Woman). This was followed by works such as Haï (Life), Lev (Heart), Shalom (Peace), and Love. While she produced several academic nudes, her creative instinct led her toward a more liberated practice inspired by contemporary art. It was then that she chose to sign her works with her second name: Nouna.
“My sculptures are born from pure earth. I work with live models that awaken in me the shapes, lines, and curves,” the artist explains. She adds:
“From these moving forms, I recreate harmony and balance by infusing them with my sensitivity and imagination.”
Today, Nouna exhibits at major contemporary art fairs and in numerous galleries both in France and internationally.
“To be an artist is to accept revealing oneself. It is about capturing everything around us and allowing it to inhabit our creations.” – Nouna".
Nouna is an award-winning French sculptor who has exhibited her work internationally. For her, art is both a witness to our times and a guardian of our freedom and imagination. Her sculptures explore themes such as freedom, love, and life. The colors she uses form a “hymn to life.” She imbues her bronze and resin compositions with both energy and serenity.

The Hebrew word “Chai” (meaning "life") symbolizes vitality, energy, and blessing in Judaism. Its letters, Chet and Yud, have a numerical value of 18—making the number a symbol of good fortune and spiritual significance. “Chai” appears in prayers, customs, and jewelry, expressing the Jewish reverence for life as a sacred gift. In art—especially in sculpture—“Chai” takes on a tangible form, brought to life through color, shape, and material. The artist give it new dimension: they do not merely present it, but animate it. The fusion of Jewish tradition with the language of contemporary art creates a visual and spiritual experience—a dialogue between past and future, between sacredness and beauty, between concept and matter.

These vibrant Chai sculptures are more than decorative pieces—they are a statement. A joyful and present reminder of the value of life, the creative energy within us, and the power of faith and human connection.
